Evaluation

Over the first semester iv found that i have many weaknesses and strengths. The main weaknesses being my timekeeping, my people skills and my ability to work within a team. The main strengths being my ability to get my ideas across and my leadership abilitys (altough i think i may be a little overpowering).

My people skills have deffinitly improved alot over the first semester, mostly due to vox pops. Having to go out and talk to people i dont know has helped my confidence and my ability to talk to people. I think although i have leadership qualitys they may be a little to overbearing and i take to much charge over things, not really taking in other peoples input and being to bossy, this is somethign i will have to work on if i expect to be able to work in the media industry, especially if i am not the team leader as this could cause serious conflicts.

My timekeeping although having improoved is still quite poor, this needs to be worked on and i plan to work on this by setting strict deadlines for myself.

I feel this course is deffinitly helping to better me as a person and helping me become more confident in myself.

My Role

My roles in the radio show as editor and presenter were both quite demanding and i feel i might have taken over a little bit, and i think i might have become quite bossy and taken over the project a little to much. I was mostly bossy over scripts, which were being written by kate, if i didnt like the script i would change it or re write it completly and i feel maybe i should have held back from doing this more than i did. I think my presenting was good and i managed to keep my voice from sounding to boring but the editing was a slightly harder job, with awkward interviewees, terrible background noise and me getting very tired of hearing the same thing over and over and over again very quickly. As an editor i will have to learn to overcome these things and i think alot of it has to do with me working on my patience.

The Pitch
This week i had to pitch for a radio show with my group, our show is a pilot for a series about sleep disorders. We are doing the pilot on insomnia as we feel this is a very common sleep disorder which hasn't had that much media coverage, we are hoping this will draw in more listeners. For the pitch i am talking about the structure of the show, here is the powerpoint presentation i gave:

My roles within our team when we actually make the show are as both editor and main presenter, I expect to be working quite hard, especially with the editing, this will probably take up the bulk of the time that I am working on the show, when presenting I am going to remember to vary my voice as I can sometimes become quite monotonous and boring vocally when reading scripts.

Future jobs?

There are several jobs that I would be interested in looking into in the future, this entry im going to talk a little about them and why they interest me.

 Radio Actor

Having enjoyed playing the role of Arthur dent in our version of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy it has definitely sparked an interest in voice acting within me. I feel I would be good at it as I am confident in following a directors orders and I enjoy interpreting characters and situations in my own way!

Radio Show Editor

I would enjoy doing this but I think I would have to work on my time keeping to be able to work well to strict deadlines, I guess that’s something I will learn with this course. I enjoy editing quite a bit and I work well when I have a producer directing me, the long hours would put me off a bit though, I don’t know if I have the stamina or patience to stay up all night fine editing a show for the next day, I guess it would just be something I would have to live with.

Set Designer

I really enjoy creating sets and then seeing them on film or in a picture, it gives me a real sense of achieving something if a set I created looks good and it makes staying up until 3 in the morning creating a prop or running around at the last minute looking for a chair or a toy gun all worth it. Before I could become a set designer I would probably have to work building sets, this would involve a lot of hard work and long hours for little money.

I hope to gain plenty of experience in these fields over my time in this course and I hope this will help me make a decision as to which I would like to do, if any at all, who knows I might change my mind completely!
